Children, COVID, and the Urgency of Normal

The original Urgency of Normal toolkit is an independent collaboration of diverse voices from the medical community. Its origins came from partnering with our own children's schools to help them make sense of this new world of vaccines for children, Omicron, and alarming declines in mental health. Although there are many articles written about COVID, there wasn't one simple place that integrated and balanced all the critical data needed for parents, students, teachers, and mentors to make informed and balanced decisions. The original toolkit was created to meet that need and has subsequently been translated into four languages.

We have also created a toolkit for those with children under 5, who desperately need normalcy, even as vaccination is not yet approved for this age group.

In our original toolkit you will find clear, understandable data on vaccine efficacy with Omicron, the state of student mental health, and how to protect the vulnerable while also restoring normalcy to all of our children's lives. Our new “Under 5” toolkit explores the impacts of continued COVID restrictions on our youngest children and contextualizes risk for informed decision-making. We hope our toolkits empower you in discussions with your school, friends, leaders, and everywhere else that COVID continues to impact our children.

We continue to update the original toolkit in response to peer feedback and to incorporate the most current research. Our toolkit reflects our most accurate and complete understanding of children, COVID and the urgency of normal.
